We’re incredibly proud to share that SAFEgroup Automation (SGA) has won the ICC 2025 Build-a-Thon, becoming the first Australian team ever to take out the title.
This year’s competition truly lived up to its reputation as the premier competitive SCADA event. In a high-energy, video-game-themed showdown complete with coins, colours and Ignition power-ups, our team went head-to-head with Barry-Wehmiller Design Group to build a fully functional Ignition solution powering a groov EPIC anodizer machine from Opto 22.

From visualising data and tracking customer requests to controlling the colour-anodising process itself, the challenge demanded speed, creativity, and deep technical capability. With the release of Ignition 8.3 and the new Event Streams Module, we were able to streamline connections and deliver under pressure — even when a surprise twist temporarily cut cloud connectivity. Running the project locally via panel HMIs and Perspective proved just how resilient and adaptable Ignition solutions can be.
To stand on that stage, represent Australia, and bring home the orange jackets is something we’ll never forget.
A huge thank you to Inductive Automation, the ICC organisers, our fellow competitors, and the entire Ignition community. Events like this remind us why we love what we do — innovation, collaboration, and pushing what’s possible in industrial automation.
We’re grateful, energised, and ready to keep building.
