Powering Gladstone’s Growth Through Water Security

The Yarwun Water Treatment Plant, first built in 1989, was no longer able to keep pace with the rapid industrial growth of the Gladstone region. To secure a reliable water supply for the Yarwun Industrial Area and Mt Larcom Township, the Gladstone Area Water Board initiated a major refurbishment and upgrade of the plant, boosting capacity from 3.6ML/day to 10ML/day.

This expansion was critical to ensure long-term water security for the fast-growing industrial hub.

About Yarwun Water Treatment Plant

The Gladstone Area Water Board owns and operates two water treatment plants, including the Yarwun Water Treatment Plant, which services the Yarwun Industrial Area and Mt Larcom Township. Originally constructed in 1989 with a capacity of 3.6ML/day, the plant faced increasing demand due to industrial growth in the region. To meet this demand, the Board initiated a refurbishment and upgrade project to increase capacity to 10ML/day.

The client required modernisation of plant systems to ensure reliable, automated operation of water treatment, backwash cycles, and clearwater pumping, alongside improved monitoring and control for sustainable long-term operations.
