Reliable Power and Control Systems for Critical Water Infrastructure
The Gladstone Area Water Board’s Curtis Island infrastructure includes a Water Booster Pump Station, three Sewage Pump Stations, and ancillary instrumentation such as level, pressure, and flow transmitters.
As electrical consultants, Welcon Technologies was responsible for the detailed design of the electrical and control systems, including the Chemical Dosing Control Panel and the Booster Pump Station switchboard. We prepared Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) sheets, carried out FAT for the new 415 V switchboard, and developed a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) system to provide automatic operation of the pump station.
Welcon also prepared the Control System Functional Specification and completed all required PLC, RTU, and SCADA programming for the Booster Pump Station, reservoir, and flow monitors. In addition, we configured new CitectSCADA HMI screens to improve supervisory control and enable remote monitoring of pump station operations.

Outcome
Welcon prepared a Control System Functional Specification and compiled the required communications, PLC, RTU and SCADA programming associated with the Booster Pump Station, reservoir and flow monitors. We also configured new screens for the existing CitectSCADA HMI system, to provide supervisory control and remote monitoring of the pump station operations.
