project Specifics
Reliable standby power with advanced 132kV protection systems
The Leichhardt Power Station was developed to provide critical standby power to support the local grid and industry in Mount Isa. Our team delivered a complete 132kV secondary system design, integrating synchronising, metering, and protection cubicles to ensure seamless operation alongside Diamantina Power Station.
With a 60 MW dual-fuel gas turbine and robust protection infrastructure, this project secured reliable backup capacity and delivered high-confidence power availability for the region.
About the Leichhardt Power Station Plant
Leichhardt Power Station operates as a standby facility, designed to cover shortfalls in power availability from Diamantina Power Station. Its role is to guarantee supply continuity when demand exceeds capacity under offtake agreements.
As such, it is a key contributor to maintaining the stability and resilience of Mount Isa’s electricity supply, safeguarding both industrial operations and the broader community.
