Our Team

At SGA, our leadership team brings decades of engineering experience across industries and regions throughout Australia. From remote communities to metropolitan infrastructure, our managers have worked on the ground and in control rooms, building a reputation for loyalty, integrity, and hands-on expertise. 

Founded by David Cockbain and Aaron Christie, the business began with a simple but urgent goal: to meet the growing need for reliable automation in Australian industries. It wasn’t long before others who shared this vision, joined. Many of our staff have stood by since those early days, forming the backbone of a company that feels more like a family than a business. 

We’re proud of our long-standing relationships with each other and with the clients we serve. That strength, built on loyalty and shared purpose, is what continues to drive us forward.

The Beginning

A small team of six specialist control system engineers join SAFEgroup to start an automation business unit.

2013

Key Contract Awards

Awarded various key long-term industry service contracts.

VIC Expansion

Stand Alone

SAFEgroup Automation (SGA) becomes a standalone company due to exponential growth.

2016

SGA Becomes Australia's WaterOutlook distributor

2017

SGA experiences a service contract explosion

Major Growth

SGA Launches ODASA

A specialised SCADA data analytics tool

First Acquisition

Acquired Downey Engineering, located in Toowoomba to service Western Queensland

Welcon Technologies Acquisition
